Lawrence Two-Hitter Leads Maine to 7-0 Victory in America East Opener

The University of Maine baseball team (35-20) used a 14-hit performance, coupled with a complete-game shutout victory by Tommy Lawrence (West Haven, Conn.), to defeat Stony Brook 7-0 in the opening round of the America East Championships at LeLacheur Park on Wednesday evening. Eric White (Brewer, Maine) powered the offense with a three-run home run as five other Black Bear batters added a pair of hits.

Top-Ranked Black Bears Open America East Tournament

The University of Maine baseball team heads to the America East Tournament this weekend, which will be played in Lowell, Mass. The Black Bears won the 2013 America East regular season title for the first time since the 2002 season. Maine opens the tournament on Wednesday, May 22 when it faces Stony Brook at 4 PM.

Fransoso, Lawrence and Trimper Pick Up Major America East Awards

After winning the 2013 America East regular season title, the University of Maine baseball team picked up three of the major post-season honors on Tuesday evening. Senior Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H.) was named America East Player of the Year, while junior hurler Tommy Lawrence (West Haven, Conn.) was a unanimous selection for Pitcher of the Year. Head coach Steve Trimper earned Coach of the Year honors. In addition, junior Mike Connolly (Bridgewater, Mass.) became the first player in conference history to be selected to All-Conference teams at two different positions.

Late Comeback Lifts UMBC Past Baseball on Senior Day

UMBC scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to come from behind and beat the University of Maine baseball team 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond in Orono, Maine. Maine falls to 34-20 on the season and 20-9 in America East play. UMBC improves to 18-30 overall, 9-21 in conference action.

Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader from UMBC; Black Bears Explode for 13 Runs in Sixth Inning of Game Two

ORONO, Maine – A.J. Bazdanes (Nashua, N.H.) threw a complete game shutout in the first game and Maine exploded for 13 runs in the sixth inning of the second game to sweep a baseball doubleheader from UMBC on Friday evening. Maine won the first game 1-0 before taking the second game 18-9. Maine improves to 34-19 on the season and 20-8 in America East play, while UMBC falls to 17-30 overall, 8-21 in conference play.

Jesse Labreck
Jesse Labreck (Oakland, Maine) won the heptathlon at the ECAC Championships this past weekend with a score of 5,551, a new UMaine school-record. Labreck also set the school high mark in the high jump with a leap of 5-11.50. Individually, Labreck won the 100m hurdles, the high jump, the long jump and the 800m run on her way to the heptathlon title.
Eric White
Baseball's Eric White (Brewer, Maine) hit .538 in a three-game weekend series at Binghamton. He scored two runs and drove in four. White had two doubles and belted his team-leading fifth home run of the season. He was 2-for-2 in stolen bases and finished with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. By taking two of three games, Maine clinched the 2013 America East reguar season title.
